Words of Inspiration and Motivation

Lyndon B. Johnson - 36th President of the United States

Lyndon B. Johnson(First Inaugural Address; January 8, 1964)
“This administration, today, here and now, declares unconditional war on poverty.”

“The promise of America is a simple promise: Every person shall share in the blessings of this land. And they shall share on the basis of their merits as a person. They shall not be judged by their color or by their beliefs, or by their religion, or by where they were born, or the neighborhood in which they live.”

Dr. Susan Bredekamp, Author of NAEYC’s Developmentally Appropriate Practice.
“Effective teachers are intentional in everything they do – they are purposeful, they’re playful, they know what they’re doing and they can explain it to other people”
"The fact that not only do you have to consider children as individuals, but you also have to consider children as members of groups with their own cultural identities."

Week 2 – Media Presenters

Louise Derman-Sparks
" I had a built in passion that it was important to make a real contribution in the world and to fix all the injustices that existed in the world." "So the passion to create a safer, more just world for all kids is there and suppose will be there until I die and maybe even after."

Raymond Hernandez

"I think first and foremost my passion comes from a lot of it is intrinsic motivation that I have for the work that I do. Every day, I go to work and look forward to it because I know the services that I'm providing for children it's to their benefit." I want the children to know "That there is more to life than just what is in their neighborhood."

Personal Childhood Web

My personal childhood web existed with four very important people. They are my mother, father, sister and grandmother

Nancy, my mother was a stay at home mom. We grew up outside of town and lived within a peach and cherry orchard. My mother had open heart surgery when she was 25 and I was only 6. I remember her coming home and I cried and cried when I saw her. She always worked hard and taught us the importance of treating others the way we wanted to be treated. My mother instilled kindness and caring into my sister and me.  She was very loving and nurturing. She always had time to help us. I am very thankful that my mother was always there for me. She would listen to my problems and help me find the right solution. My mother made and still makes me feel special because she believes in me and is always there when I need her.

My father George showed me how to be a hard worker. He had a job as a Police Chief and would come home by 5pm and work in the orchard until dark. He is a relationship builder. A people person. To see you is to know you. My dad coached sports and helped troubled teens get back into school through sports. He has always told me, he was proud of me. I got married young but went back and finished high school and then was the first person to graduate from college. Daddy taught me that with hard work and perseverance I can be anything I wanted to be. That made me feel very special.

My Grandmother Mary is now passed.  The times and lessons, I have learned from her are so special. She was a wonderful grandmother; the kind that would give you ice cream for breakfast or let you put strawberry jam into your mashed potatoes. She would have to try it too, just to see why I liked it so much. She taught me how to love. She was kind and caring. She always had time for me and wanted me to spend the night on the weekends. She would always ask me what I wanted to do. She played with me and taught me how to be a woman. She took me fishing. She taught me how to cook and sew. The most important thing I got from her was the unconditional feeling of love and acceptance of me and who I was.

I am lucky to have a strong family support system.  My mother and father are always there when I need them for any reason.  They have been married for 63 years and have passed down their nurturing care for mine and my sister’s families. I feel very blessed.
